Used Pallet Grade Guide
Grade names are useful shorthand, but buyers should define the physical conditions their operation will accept. This guide explains common recycled-pallet categories.
Premium or AAA recycled pallets
Premium pallets are generally selected when appearance, uniformity and limited repair evidence matter. They may have cleaner deck boards, fewer repairs and less visible wear than standard recycled grades. The exact standard still needs to be confirmed with the supplier.
Grade A pallets
Grade A pallets are typically reusable pallets with sound primary stringers and ordinary wear. Repairs may be limited compared with lower grades. They are often used for general distribution where performance matters more than a like-new appearance.
Grade B pallets
Grade B pallets are economical repaired pallets and may include companion stringers or more visible board replacement. They can be appropriate for applications that accept repairs and cosmetic variation.
Facilities with conveyors, automated storage or strict customer requirements should document whether companion stringers, plugs or particular board gaps are allowed.
Build an acceptance checklist
- Correct footprint and entry style.
- No protruding nails or unsecured boards.
- No unacceptable odor, chemical residue, mold or product contamination.
- Specified repair limits and board condition.
- Required load use and handling environment.
- Valid ISPM-15 mark when export compliance applies.
Inspect an initial load or approve a sample before launching a high-volume recurring program.
