What ISPM-15 addresses
ISPM-15 is an international phytosanitary standard for regulated wood packaging material moving between participating countries. Compliant wood pallets are treated through an approved process and marked by an authorized producer or treatment provider.
Rules can vary by destination and commodity. Confirm requirements with the receiving country, broker or freight forwarder.
Heat treatment is not kiln drying
Heat treatment for ISPM-15 and kiln drying for moisture control are different processes. A pallet should not be represented as export compliant merely because the lumber is dry or has been heated. The required official mark is a key part of compliance.
Information to give the supplier
- Destination country and planned ship date.
- Pallet dimensions, design and quantity.
- Product weight and load pattern.
- Whether a certificate or treatment record is required.
- Any customer-specific marking or documentation rules.
Do not paint over, alter or reuse an illegible compliance mark.
Verify before loading
Inspect the mark for legibility and confirm the pallet matches the ordered design. Keep purchase and treatment documentation with shipment records when required by your process.
